In The Plague of Shadows
Co-Written & Co-Directed by Danneh Barlow
My Role: Sound Recordist & Runner
The second third year set I was asked to take part on was a film directed from a friend, Danneh Barlow, called In The Plague of Shadows. It was shot in the Peak District in The Roaches, at a gorgeous location hidden at the top of a rocky hill that we all stated reminded us of the glorious 2012 Blockbuster Skyfall. Set in a spectacular stone Victorian manor house/hall (Photographed Below) which can actually be rented out as a holiday home and slept 30 so we were never short of space.

Participating on the crew as a runner and sound recordist and boom operator gave me a new insight in to sound side of things as I had only had one or two experiences in the sound department from previous crews. We did come to some difficulties including me hiding under a bed in order to get clear sound whilst staying out of shot.
Another issue we came across was whilst the camera was on a steadicam following the actor across the landing and down and around the staircase. To get the best sound of the actors breathing and footsteps we had to follow the camera operator and avoid our own footsteps over the old creaky wooden floorboard. This meant strategically placing carpets and clothing for us to stick to and removing our shoes for extra security.

Overall as an experience in sound recording I have learnt a lot about recording on set sound from the position of the microphone, peaking levels and how to get the best sound possible.
