Kart

Written & Directed by Alex Kingham

My Role: 1st Unit Camera Assistant & 2nd Unit Camera Operator

Based on the basic concept of sibling rivalry and the 'red vs blue' idea, Kart takes you through the relationship of two brothers from the 'underdog' point of view.

After the meetings and talking on the films Facebook page we were all very excited to get this film started! There were two test shoots, one of the Scalextric set in the shoot studio and another at Fast Lane Go-Karting, which was the location for the last day of shooting, in order to test lighting and camera angles more than anything. (Below are the videos of test footage)

Unfortunately due to illness I had to miss the first 3 days of the shoot but fortunately managed to recover in time for the 4th night shoot which was most important for the film. It was shot inside Fast Lane Go-Karting in Stoke so travel wasn't a major issue luckily as we didn't have enough cars to transport all the equipment and cast so it meant doing a few trips to collect everyone and everything.

The shoot was great fun getting to help out on the camera visual side of things and taught me the importance of camera lenses in order to capture the correct look and feel for each shot. I instantly thought it was all about the camera and it is partly but seeing the difference in quality of lenses, from a EF 16-35mm f/2.8 L lens, EF 50mm f/1.8 and an EF 70-200mm f/2.8 all on a Canon 600D and 650D.

(Below are a selection of production stills from the shoot).
