Oddball
Written and Directed by Paul Atkinson

My Role:  Runner and Public Relations

Day Shoot #1 - 13th April:

As my last given opportunity to be on set with Level 6 students I was a bit gutted to say the least. I loved working with the year above and watching them work on set. Fortunately enough it was a relaxed shoot and been my easiest role as of yet, with helping out on set with anything I could and making sure the actors were happy, warm and not bored.

Based around inspiration from the character in Buffalo '66 (1st two pictures on left column), bizarre and surreal scenes in the film if... (1st two pictures on second row from left) and romance elements of American Beauty (2 pictures in 3rd row in from left) and (500) Days of Summer (Final row of 2 pictures on right), Oddball is a short drama simply based around 2 young adults/teenagers who go on a peculiar first date leading to a more conventional one after only just meeting each other on a rather different location.

Using the location of a scrap metal yard was definitely something new for me, even to be on the premises of a scrap yard was new to so! So like a curious little child I constantly wanted to wonder off and check out what was kicking around. I was professional though don't worry!

We arrived a little earlier than expected and had to wait for a heard of vans and lorries to do their trading business with all the metal in varied forms.

This gave mus time to connect as a crew and be briefed of what was going to happen and what was needed of each of us.

Due to it being a simple shoot and small selection of shots it only took us a total of 4hours to get the required shots for the director. After our allotted time the scrap yard owner returned to unlock the gates, set the electric fences on and let us out. Just in time too as the rain 'spats'  and gusts of chilly winds began to start getting more frequently on and off and slightly heavier and stronger each time.
