My Role: 2nd Assistant Director

This was the biggest set I had been on with a small selection of about 4 crew members at each rehearsal to then upscaling to a crew size of 13/14 and a cast/dance troup of 6 girls around Spode Factory, running between 3 spaces where we were shooting and where we were keeping equipment.

Being a fan of dance myself I found it very interesting to see an insight in to the chemistry of a dance troup, there collaboration of prefered dance genres and the way they rehearse and create a dance routine. It felt as if they were a film crew just like us, all working together with different styles and personalities but bouncing off each other with ideas and skills to create one project.

As second assistant director I had the responsibilities to look after a small crew of my own and conduct the interviews from arranging the location, camera angles and questions. Having communication via walkie talkies to the equipment room and the other unit crew both me and Alex (1st AD) were making sure everything was going swiftly to plan and the director was happy.

Was a fantastic experience with learning new skills as an assistant director, the big responsibility and working with new crew members. Had a great time and thankful to the director, also a good friend of mine, for the opportunity.
